Went out to do a simple little clutch adjustment, and look what I did!
I stripped threads when I went to tighten down the lock nut.
I thought I had stripped the threads on the adjustment screw or the lock nut since I found this wrapped around them. Nope.. Their threads were fine. Where did it come from?
Shit, it came out of the release plate.
Shit. Off to the shop manual to see how much dis-assembly will be required to get that plate out. Knowing my luck, It's the last damn part to be remov...
Wait a minute.....
SWEET! $15 part! Waiting for the mail (or running up to the dealer) is the worst part of it.
THIS NEVER HAPPENS TO ME. I never break a part that is so close to the top.
Step 10 (which comes right after "remove screw and locknut"): Remove retaining ring and pull release plate from clutch hub.
TL;DR - Simple adjustment turned confusing, then turned cumbersome and expensive, then turned simple.
Hooray!

Super dooper. I haven't used that tool in years. Just thought I'd mention that.

I had to use it twice today. Once to get that plate out, and another time to remove the clutch pivot pin to get the clutch cable out of the lever to lube it.
It's really nice to have the right tools for this shit. Trying to use a small screwdriver and a pair of needlenose will only get you so far.

Try driving around with a metric wrench set in your trunk only to realize, after almost a year, that your car is imperial. Quite an embarrassing day.

I have only had this bike for about two years. I can't believe it's imperial.
Actually, I can... It's Harley-Davidson... but it's unusual for something that new to not be metric these days.

Well, Harley has been building the same bike since the 70s.
